“Well. Let me put it this way. I’m not taking sides, understand? But I kind-of know how he’s feeling.”

She looked neither angry nor pleased. “How.”

“Right or wrong, he’s feeling abandoned, he’s feeling hurt, and he’s lashing out. Me? When Barb left, I hit the gym and took it out on a punching bag and my sparring partners. Buddy, on the other hand, is a tattoo artist who can’t be one anymore. He doesn’t know where to channel his emotions, and he’s just a mess because of it. He has no outlet. And, he’s been showing up here, likely, because deep down, he has this belief that you might take him back.” I slammed my shot. “Or, he’s just a douche bag. I’m just trying to put myself in his shoes. He might not feel that way at all. It’s just, that’s what my own divorce experience tells me.”

“Oh,” she said quietly. Her lower lip began to tremble. “I’m such a bitch.” She put her hand over her mouth and started crying again.

This time, I gathered her into my arms. “You are not a bitch, and please don’t call yourself one around me.” We both slipped off stools and stood. Her face went back to the damp spot on my shoulder to where she’d cried earlier. I let her just get it out. Though, it began to feel a bit awkward. I liked how she felt in my arms, her hot cheek flush against my neck. I wondered where those feelings came from? I mean, Christy was always a gorgeous woman to me. Her black punk rock band shirts always clung to her slender frame and accentuated the full, round shape of her breasts. And now, those breasts where pressed up against me. I felt like such an a*****e for even thinking that. First, she was my boss, and professionalism dictated that you don’t give in to sexy thoughts about the person why signs your paychecks. Second, she was vulnerable and in my arms. I shouldn’t have been thinking about how attractive she was. Still, I held her, and I tried to tell her that everything was going to be okay.

When we parted, she fully didn’t let go. In fact, she kept her face close to mine. She looked me in the eyes and then did something I would have never anticipated in a million years. She leaned closer and brushed her lips against mine. I was so shocked, I didn’t respond. Then, she leaned a little more forcefully into me, pressing her lips harder against me. I opened my mouth a little, and her tongue slipped in. I couldn’t control myself, and I kissed her back. Only, reason kicked in fairly quickly, and I pulled back.
